Timeline of ACTION’s Activities to Date

  • August long weekend, 2018 – resident notices quarry application sign, strategically located on Twiss Road north of Reid Sideroad
  • Aug 2, 2018: Letter from James Dick Construction Limited (JDCL) to the Town of Milton indicating JDCL has submitted a licence application to the MNRF for the Reid Road Reservoir Quarry (Campbellville Quarry) site
  • Aug 22, 2018: First community meeting of concerned residents, held at the Mohawk Inn; technical information shared and meeting of people interested in forming a Board
  • Aug 29, 2018: JDCL’s on-site open house, attended by a couple of hundred concerned residents
  • Sept 14, 2018: ACTION legally incorporated in Ontario
  • Sep 17, 2018: Last day to file an objection to the quarry licence application with JDCL and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry. Concerned residents file over 1200 Notices of Objection to the proposed Campbellville quarry, to both JDCL and the MNRF
  • Sept 24, 2018: The posting for an Issuance of a licence to remove over 20,000 tonnes of aggregate annually from a pit or a quarry was placed on the ERO website (#013-3690)

  • Oct 24, 2018: Community meeting of concerned residents, held at the Mohawk Inn
  • Apr 25, 2019: Notice of Objector Responses sent to residents by JDCL
  • May 8, 2019: 2nd community meeting of concerned residents at the Mohawk Inn, with 300 residents in attendance and over $100,000 raised
  • May 22, 2019: final date for ACTION’s and residents’ response to JDCL’s “Notice of Objector Responses” (Apr 25, 2019)
  • July 24, 2019: Hitherfield school community meeting hosted by ACTION
  • July 25, 2019: MPP Parm Gill formally requests that the Minister of Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) undertake an Environmental Assessment (EA) of the proposed Reid Road Reservoir Quarry project

  • Dec 15, 2020: final date for submission by ACTION and residents to JDCL and MNRF, in response to JDCL’s Notice of “Objector Response – Aggregate Resources Act” (Nov 19, 2020); also ACTION letter outlining lack of consultation prior to receipt of this Notice by JDCL
  • Jan 29, 2021: A project-specific proposal to designate and exempt the proposed Reid Road Reservoir Quarry in Milton under the Environmental Assessment Act is posted on the Environmental Registry of Ontario (#019-2876)
  • Feb 25, 2021: ACTION Zoom meeting updating residents on the EA and Joint Agency Review Team (JART)
  • Mar 15, 2021: ERO comment period closed for submissions on “A project-specific proposal to designate and exempt the proposed Reid Road Reservoir Quarry in Milton under the Environmental Assessment Act”; more than 1100 submissions requesting an environmental assessment of the project were sent by ACTION and concerned residents

  • June 28, 2021: ACTION Zoom meeting to update residents
  • July 21, 2021: residents rally at entrance to the proposed quarry; Shane Philips residents walk to MPP Gill’s Milton constituency office and deliver a petition with over 1000 names
  • July 30, 2021: the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) designated the proposed quarry as an undertaking under the Environmental Assessment Act
  • Nov 25, 2021: ACTION Zoom meeting, to update residents
  • Oct 16, 2023: JDCL mails Notice of Commencement of Environmental Assessment for their proposed Reid Road Reservoir Quarry (RRRQ) (the Campbellville quarry) to interested parties
  • Nov 17, 2023: JDCL announces date of first Public Information Meeting, as required under the Environmental Assessment designation
  • 6, 2023: JDCL’s first Public Information Meeting (by Zoom) reviewing the draft Criteria and Indicators submitted to MECP
  • 17, 2024: submission of responses to JDCL’s draft Preliminary Evaluation Criteria and Indicators document, with a total of 858 letters submitted to both JDCL and MECP
